Flower Pot Bread

I had lunch at Shop Terrain in CT and with your meal they bring out these terracotta pots filled with bread. They are just so cute. I have taken people from out of town to eat there and the bread is always a big topic of conversation.
I took my mom, sister and niece when they were visiting from Utah. And I set out to make this bread. I want to use it for my thanksgiving dinner and put at every place setting.
I think these would make a great neighbor gift too, if you can find a larger terracotta pot.

I found these pots at Home Depot for 70 cents each. Simply wash them with soapy water and let dry.

First you need to season the pots. Coat the inside of the pots with olive oil, I just used a napkin.
You are supposed to bake 5 pots for an hour at 200 degrees. I did 8 pots for an hour and a half.

Fill your pots with your favorite bread recipe.
Or this is the one I did that my mom introduced me to.

1 1/2 cups water (room temperature)
1/4 teaspoon yeast
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour (high rise)
Mix the water, salt and yeast first then add to the flour
Mix until just wet in a large bowl
Cover with a plate or plastic wrap and let sit for 8 to 24 hours
Then degas, by stirring it once to get the air out
Grease your pots with oil or butter
Separate into pots the dough into your pots
When I did it I divided it out into four 4" pots. Next time I am going to double the recipe and fill them a little fuller.
Bake at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes, until golden on top

(Recipe was adapted from THIS recipe, great video on bread)

I think they would be perfect for a dinner party and every place setting have their own potted bread.

Or send as a gift with a tag that says-
"One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever we are doing
and devote our attention to eating." James Beard

We ate them with chicken noodle soup for dinner tonight and everyone loved the bread.
